A Visit to the Red Woods

The Redwoods is such a beautiful forest full of HUGE trees, if you have free time don't miss out the roadside attractions that let you explore the forest in a unique way.

We decided to take a day trip down to the redwoods, specifically Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park to get our national park passport stamped at their visitor center (or buy and start one!). The trail we decided to take was the Simpson Reed Trail which is a looped trail just off of highway 199 near Cresent City. On our way down to California from Oregon we kept seeing signs for a place called the Trees of Mystery, after getting our stamp and exploring a trail we decided to continue south towards Klamath California.

Once you get to the Trees of Mystery you are met with a statue of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox. Here there sky bridges to explore the redwoods from a higher aspect, there are trails around that have multiple wooden statues inspired by the life of Paul Bunyan. Once you are done with the sky bridges there is also a sky tram that shoots you right to the top of the tree line to a breathtaking view of the ocean. You can take the sky tram back down, or you could take a steep hike down back to the base. If you take the hike down, I highly advise having shoes with traction and if you see ropes on the side of the trail... they are there for a reason! Hold on to those!
